Alberta confirmed in September 2025 that it will not adopt ASME A17.1:2022 / CSA B44:22, keeping the 2019 edition in force until the province jumps straight to the 2025 code on 1 February 2027. The problem is the 2025 edition is built on 2022, so door lock monitoring on existing units, pit ladder safety switches, cartop fall protection, emergency responder radio coverage, and more all land on the same day. That is a compressed timeline for building owners and maintainers to assess existing equipment. For those of you working in Alberta — how are you approaching conversations with clients about what is coming? Are AHJs signaling any enforcement grace periods, or is February 2027 a hard line?
